Osteopathy
Osteopathy is an alternative therapy using a gentle holistic hands-on approach, involving soft-tissue massage techniques, joint mobilisations and manipulation. The treatment is not painful and many patients find it quite an enjoyable experience.
We treat and diagnosis a wide range of injuries, including:
- Low back and neck pain.
- Sciatica
- Headaches (Tension)
- Sports Injuries
- Joint pain including hip, shoulder, knee, elbow, ankles, hands and feet
- Tendon pain including Achilles, plantar fasciitis, shoulder, tennis and golfers elbow
Benefits of Osteopathy
One of the key benefits of Osteopath, is that it does not involve any medication or invasive surgery. It also works on the entire body. By improving the body function and encouraging a better flow of blood and lymphatics, Osteopathy enables the whole body to heal itself. It can be helpful for people of all ages and all physiques.
Dry Needling
This is a form of western acupuncture similar to eastern acupuncture in that the same needles are used. Eastern acupuncture uses specific points based along organ pathways and Chakra’s whereas dry needling is based primarily on trigger point therapy.
Trigger points are knots in muscles that become active which means they are painful and they can cause pain to radiate to different areas of the body depending on the location. Needling these trigger points can help to reduce the pain produced by them and therefore reduce overall pain intensity and improve function. Needling can also be used for joint pain and may also help with pain that radiates down the leg or arm.
Taping
Two forms of taping can be offered. The first is sports taping and uses a zinc oxide tape designed to provide restriction to an injured joint to prevent excessive movement and therefore re-injury of the affected joint.
The second type of taping is using kinesiology tape which is designed to be similar to skin by allowing a degree of movement whilst also protecting the injury. It can be used to either reduce or increase activity of a particular muscle, restrict joint mobility, reduce swelling and bruising, increase blood flow and aid in postural changes. Taping can be used as part of the rehabilitation process helping to improve function and stability of the injured area.
Shockwave Therapy
Shockwave therapy treatment is a powerful clinical treatment which benefits the body by enabling the cells to be stimulated into action when healing has been slowed or stopped. The energy is produced by compressed air which is locally applied to the area needing healing. Controlled kinetic energy is dissipated through the skin, penetrating the tissues stimulating a healing response.
List of conditions Shockwave Therapy can benefit:
• Plantar Fasciitis
• Achilles tendinopathy
• Rotator cuff tendinopathy with calicification (usually supraspinatus)
• Tennis elbow
• Golfers elbow
• Biceps tendinopathy
• Patellar tendinopathy
• Chronic muscle injury
• Chronic proximal (high) hamstring tendinopathy
• Cellulite (cosmetic)
• Knee osteoarthritis
Shockwave Therapy works well when combined with Osteopathy
Shockwave Therapy works best when used with Osteopathic techniques, because the underlying adverse biomechanics that caused the problem can be corrected. This provides the best outcomes and our whole-body approach gives you the very best chance of recovery long-term.
The benefits of Shockwave Therapy are many:
• Treatment is non-invasive
• There’s no risk of infection
• No risk of tendon rupture as may rarely occur with steroid injections
• Recovery time can be much faster
As your body is healing itself, it may take a few weeks for the best results to develop. Some people find the treatment a little uncomfortable, but not painful.
