Here are just a few examples of the many treatments I have provided as an Osteopath and Holistic Therapist.
A female elite high jumper came to the clinic complaining of knee pain just below the knee caps in both knees. The pain had been ongoing for several months, gradually worsening to the point where she was unable to train, go to the gym, jump or run. Even walking was uncomfortable. She was seeking help to return to the sport she loved doing.
Following a full assessment, treatment included a combination of osteopathic treatment, shockwave therapy and personalised progressive rehabilitation programme designed to heal and strengthen the tendons gradually to eventually return to full training, jumping and ultimately competing.
As the condition had been considerably debilitating and progressively worsened over a few months it took several treatments to reduce the pain significantly to allow her to return gradually to full training. By the end of the treatment she had been able to improve her strength in the gym and was back to full training and competing, even winning the Irish championships.
A painter & decorator booked in to see me complaining predominantly of long-standing elbow pain but also wrist, shoulder and neck discomfort which were all aggravated by his manual job. After an examination, it was clear to see that these were all linked so I sought to correct the underlying problems.
Following a full assessment, treatment included a combination of osteopathic treatment and personalised rehabilitation exercises designed to reduce strain to the area, strengthen the muscles involved and support recovery. Postural advice was also given as well as ways of modifying activity to allow him to continue working.
After just one treatment he had felt great improvement over the week and that the stretches, postural advice and practical tips given after the session were very helpful. He is now a great advocate of osteopathy and an excellent source of referrals for me as he has experienced the benefits first hand. He now opts to have monthly maintenance treatments to keep everything in check, so as to keep him going for longer before he retires and only wishes he found osteopathy sooner, rather than suffer for years.
An electrician booked into my clinic complaining of severe pain from his lower back radiating down the whole of the back of his leg. It had been gradually worsening over a few weeks and was beginning to affect his work as he was struggling to bend, lift and get into tight spaces. He seeked my help to relieve the pain and to get back to working more comfortably.
Following a full assessment, treatment included a combination of osteopathic treatment, dry needling and rehabilitation exercises to reduce the pressure on the lower back especially the L5/S1 disc region and the nerve exiting at that segment.
After a few sessions his pain had reduced considerably and allowed him to return to full working duties. He continues to have regular treatments as a prevention from a recurrence of the pain he had experienced.
A midwife visited the clinic complaining of severe pain down the back of her right leg from the Glute region down the foot with some tingling in the same distribution. She was unable to drive and perform her duties as a community midwife so had to take some time off work. She was seeking treatment and advice on to how better manage the condition and to return to work as soon as possible.
Following a full assessment, treatment included a combination of osteopathic treatment and rehabilitation exercises to reduce the pressure on the lower back, especially the structures involved in causing the sciatic nerve pain. Advice on continuing to be active and if possible to do lighter duties at work to allow a quicker recovery was given.
After 3 treatments she was a lot better and was able to return to full working duties and has been discharged from treatment. She was very happy with the speediness of her improvement and will return if she requires any further treatment in the future.
An ultrarunner visited the clinic complaining of gradually worsening pain in her left glute region. It had been progressively worsening over a period of a few months following a long training run. She had continued to run but was finding it difficult to do anything longer than a few miles before the pain became too severe she had to stop. She had stopped running for a few weeks as it was getting too painful.
Following a full assessment, treatment included a combination of osteopathic treatment, dry needling and personalised progressive rehabilitation programme designed to heal and strengthen the gluteal region and allow it to tolerate the increasing training loads and allow her to return to ultra marathons. She was also advised to commence a strength and conditioning program for 2 days a week.
After a few sessions she was able to return to running and progressively build up the training load over the next few weeks whilst continuing the rehabilitation along with the strength and conditioning program. This allowed her to build her conditioning to prevent further injury and return to ultra marathons in a stronger position than she was pre-injury.
A female patient was suffering with long-term heel pain which had been aggravated after having to do lots of walking in London over several weeks. The problem was gradually worsening and was starting to affect her ability to walk around London. She was having to take more taxis to get to her destinations. They had tried stretching, rest and self-management techniques, but nothing was helping and the pain was gradually worsening.
Following a full assessment, treatment included a combination of shockwave therapy for foot pain, osteopathic treatment and a personalised rehabilitation programme as well as advice on footwear and modifying activity to reduce strain on the plantar fascia and support recovery.
After 3 treatments her pain had reduced to a more comfortable level and she was able to walk further with less discomfort and had less pain the following day. She had 3 more treatments and her pain was more manageable. She has a monthly top up treatment to keep the condition at bay.
A patient with left outer pelvic/hip pain attended the clinic. He had been suffering with the pain for over 2 years and had been seen within the NHS system over that period with no avail. The pain had come on suddenly and had gradually worsened over the proceeding 2 years and was affecting his daily life as he was unable to walk very far and had to use a stick to help him get around.
Following a full assessment, treatment included a combination of osteopathic treatment and personalised rehabilitation exercises designed to reduce strain to the area, strengthen the muscles involved and support recovery.
After several treatments the patient was experiencing a lot less pain and was able to walk much further and more freely than he had been over the last 2 years and was discharged from treatment.
A patient came to see me suffering with right knee pain after a fall that occurred 3 years previously. The pain had progressively got worse and was affecting her mobility especially walking, going up and down stairs or hills. She and her husband spent a lot of time walking and bird watching and she felt the pain in her knee was preventing her from being able to spend too much time on her feet.
Following a full assessment, treatment included a combination of shockwave therapy for knee pain, osteopathic treatment and a personalised rehabilitation programme as well as advice on modifying activity to reduce too much stress on her knee.
After 5 treatments her pain had reduced to a more comfortable level and she was able to walk further with less discomfort and had less pain the following day. She is continuing treatment every few weeks to help keep the condition of her knee manageable.
A keen runner came to see me after a recurring hamstring injury had prevented him from being able to run and train. He has injured the hamstring several months previously and had thought it had healed so resumed training. During a race the same hamstring became injured again and he had to pull out of the race. He was frustrated that the injury had reoccurred and was preventing him from running.
Following a full assessment, treatment included a combination of osteopathic treatment and personalised rehabilitation exercises designed to reduce strain to the area, strengthen the muscles involved and support recovery.
After the first treatment I was able to get the patient out running that week keeping the pace slow and the distance short. After 4 treatments he was able to run much longer and at a faster pace without any recurrence of the injury. He has continued to work on his strength and conditioning exercises which has helped to keep him injury free.
